Irene Cara, singer best known for performing the title tracks for classic 80’s movies fame And the jig, Die. She was 63 years old.
Kara Propaganda, Judith A. moose, She confirmed the news of her death in a statement shared via the singer’s Twitter account early Saturday morning.
“It is with deep sadness that I announce on behalf of her family the passing of Irene Cara,” Moss wrote. “The Academy Award-winning actress, singer, songwriter, and producer has died at her home in Florida.”
“Erin’s family has asked for privacy while they process their grief,” the rep added. “She was a beautifully gifted soul, whose legacy will live on forever through her music and films.”
Kara’s representative said that the cause of Kara’s death is currently unknown, but that it will be revealed when information becomes available. She added that funeral services are currently suspended and a memorial service for Kara fans will be planned for a later date.

in Follow-up statementCara’s rep confirmed that she and the star’s manager had been informed of Kara’s death late Friday evening. “Believe me, I wish it wasn’t true,” she wrote.
