Actor John Cusack cancels his second Portlandia appearance

The nearly sold-out event with actor John Cusack at the State Theater, which had been postponed in October and rescheduled for next week, has been cancelled, this time for good.

His 2000 film “High Fidelity,” called “An Evening with John Cusack,” followed by a question-and-answer session with the star, was scheduled for Jan. 11 at the Portland Auditorium.

Loren Wayne, general manager of the State Theater, said Cusack’s agent told her his filming project in China was on schedule.

“They did not have a new date to confirm at the time, and since this was the second time it had been postponed from its conclusion, we canceled the show,” she said.

A representative for Cusack’s talent agency said in an email Thursday that she had no details about his current film project, and that she was working to reschedule all dates for his event tour.

The Portland show, originally scheduled for October 22, was postponed until this month due to what the State Theater referred to at the time as an “unexpected scheduling conflict.”

Cusack, 57, known as the leading man in 1980s and 1990s dramas, may have lost some fans after the cancellation was announced on Wednesday, when ticket holders took to the State Theater’s Facebook page to express their disappointment.

“Very upset, one payment has now been cancelled. This is great for me to meet John on my birthday,” said one fan who purchased the VIP package, which included a meet and greet with Cusack.

Some had harsher words for the actor, while others took the opportunity to quote his 1985 film Better Off Dead – “I want my dollar!”

For State Theater ticket holders, online purchases will be automatically refunded. Anyone who purchased a ticket at the box office at 609 Congress Street must go there in person to get a refund. Timings are from 10am to 5pm on Fridays.
