The iPhone 14 aims to eliminate its main competitor – the Galaxy S22. There are other options when it comes to Android smartphones, but the truth is that most people choose either an Apple or a Samsung device, depending on their hardware and software preferences.
There are a lot of similarities between these two phones, although on the surface they may not look alike. The iPhone 14 will be the vanilla model, the standard for all other iPhones (there’s no iPhone mini this year, unfortunately), and the same goes for the Galaxy S22 – it’s the base model, and also the best-selling model.

According to the latest information, Apple is seeking to make some additional changes and upgrades in its iPhone 14 series devices. While the top models in the iPhone 14 lineup are believed to change their front appearance (with holes for the camera in the form of a pill), the vanilla iPhone 14 is expected to retain the narrow notch of the series iPhone 13.
The exact dimensions of the iPhone 14 are not known at the moment, but the fact that it will have a 6.1-inch screen like the Galaxy S22 puts both devices in the same ballpark, when it comes to physical size.

Focusing on the color scheme, rumors suggest the iPhone 14 may come in midnight, Starlight, Product RED, blue, and possibly a new purple. On the other hand, the Galaxy S22 is already available in Cream, Violet, Cyan, and Graphite colours. There is some overlap here, although the names do not match.

The design of the Galaxy S22 is also an evolution, not a revolution
Not much is known about the iPhone 14’s display characteristics, except for the fact that it will maintain a 60Hz refresh rate (faster refresh rates are expected to come in higher models). There’s good news and bad news here – the iPhone 14 is expected to retain the A15 Bionic chipset we all know (and love) from the iPhone 13 series. Here’s the bad news – and the good news is that this chipset is very fast and will likely be on par with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 on the Galaxy S22. When it comes to comparing Apple’s silicon with Qualcomm chips, things are a bit unclear, but we’ll include a comparison between the Galaxy S22 and the iPhone 13, as the performance won’t be much different, given the same silicon inside the iPhone 14.

As for the case of RAM, there’s not much to compare here, because the way iOS and Android take care of apps and processes is a little different. For numbers only, we can say that the Galaxy S22 comes with 8GB of RAM while the iPhone 14 is expected to have 4GB.

Rumors have it that Apple is in the process of making a major update to the main camera of the iPhone 14. The phone is expected to have a new 1/1.3-inch 48-megapixel sensor capable of shooting 8K video. The sheer size of the sensor also indicates better quality at night and low-light photos. Another big rumored upgrade is the auto-focus selfie camera with a wider F1.9 aperture.

The great unknown
There is very little (or none) information about the iPhone 14 battery. Some leakers claim that there will be a significant increase in battery life in the iPhone 14 compared to its predecessor but there are no numbers to support these claims at all. The iPhone 13 made a significant jump (15% – from 2,815 mAh to 3,227 mAh) in battery capacity over the previous model, and given that the chipset will remain the same on the iPhone 14, battery life should be similar to the previous one.

The situation with charging speed is more complicated. We don’t expect a charger in the iPhone 14 retail box, and given the fact that the USB-C transition won’t happen until at least 2023, there likely won’t be any major upgrade in charging speeds. For what it’s worth, the Galaxy S22 also lacks a charger in the box and uses the same 25W fast charging technology from the old Galaxy S21.
