Bruce Willis has not sold his rights to deepfake studio, despite reports to the contrary that have recently surfaced on the Internet. The Telegraph reported at the end of September that Willis had made history as “the first Hollywood star to sell his rights to allow the creation of a ‘digital twin’ of himself for use on screen”. While Willis’ “digital twin” was created by Deepcake for use in an advertisement for the Russian telecom company MegaFon, Deepcake does not own the rights to Willis’ image – or the “digital twin”.

Welles’ representative confirmed to diverse that “there is no partnership or agreement between Bruce and Deep Cake.” A Deepcake spokesperson said diverse Same, adding, “Bruce Willis image rights [and] To his digital twin belongs to Bruce Willis and only him.”

Deepcake is an AI-powered content creation platform that creates “digital twins” of celebrities using their shape, but they do not retain the rights to these “digital twins.” The spokesperson added: “One gets their very own exact ‘digital twin’ who may take their place anywhere – at their own decision.”

According to Deepcake, the studio worked with MegaFon in August 2021 on an ad campaign starring Bruce Willis. Deepcake has not worked with Willis’ team directly and has not entered into an agreement with Willis to use the Digital Twin for any further purpose.

“Our engineers processed a data set of 34,000 images of Bruce Willis and created his ‘digital twin’ of the MegaFon ad series,” the spokesperson said. Bruce Willis, whose bilateral contractual agreements with MegaFon remain unknown to Deepcake, appreciated our service and described it as a “very interesting and new experience” in MegaFon’s official press release.

“I loved the subtlety with which my character came out,” Willis added at the time in the release. “[The advertisement is] A small movie of the usual kind of action-comedy. For me, it’s a great opportunity to go back in time. With the advent of modern technology, even when I was on another continent, I was able to communicate, work and participate in photography. It’s a new and interesting experience, and I thank our entire team.”

In March, Willis family members posted a joint statement on social media announcing the actor’s retirement due to his diagnosis of aphasia. Aphasia is a language disorder caused by brain damage that affects a person’s ability to communicate.

“To the amazing Bruce fans, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has some health issues and was recently diagnosed with aphasia, which affects his cognitive abilities,” the statement read. “As a result of this and with so much consideration, Bruce is walking away from a career that meant so much to him.”
