David Chang, the celebrity chef who founded the Michelin-starred restaurant Momofuku, isn’t a big fan of Costco’s rotisserie chicken.
“I’ve got a hot shot,” Chang said during this week’s edition of “The David Chang Show” podcast.
“I think Costco chicken is the worst roast chicken,” he said.
“They are not good. They are not experienced.”
Chang continued, “The reason it’s so important to eat it appropriately is that you can eat it cold the next day – and it should taste good cold.”
“And there’s something about all the nitrates and all the crap they pump into the chicken that makes chicken breasts even more disgusting the next day when it’s cold… It’s inedible. It really is.”
The Post requested comment from Costco.
Zhang said the $4.99 price point makes it attractive to some buyers.
If you like weightlifting at Atkins [diet] Then I will buy that nonstop.
Chang also complained that while shopping at Costco, he had to buy two chickens even though he only wanted one.
While he only needed to shell out $25, the average supermarket price for one chicken, Zhang said the package left something to be desired.
“When I got home, I realized they were packed together in one giant package,” he said.
Zhang said he plans to cook one and put the other in the freezer, but the cleaning process has forced him to reconsider. He eventually decided to freeze both chickens.
“Once you open that plastic, it’s a geyser of chicken juice everywhere,” Chang said.

He said, “You know what’s going to happen.”
“That’s when I know I’m turning into a mom. I’m going to buy a fresh chicken before I use up those two frozen chickens.”
“This is a dilemma, and that is why, as a developed country, we will all die in hell,” Zhang added.
The restaurateur praised the Costco brisket, which he bought for $49, but would have gladly paid $149.
“If you buy that at Whole Foods, it’s $150,” Chang said.
Costco sought to keep costs low during a period of record inflation. Last year, the company stuck with its plan to keep its $1.50 hot dog and soda combo affordable.
However, Chang criticized the fact that Costco does not present its bags to shoppers while they visit their stores.
“It’s equivalent to going to a restaurant without silverware,” he said.
