Becoming a mother made Gigi Hadid re-imagine her career.
During an October interview with Vogue magazineThe supermodel discussed her new cashmere label Guest in Residence, and shared how her pregnancy with daughter Khai helped her realize her career needed to turn around.
The 27-year-old told the magazine, “You can’t model forever. I was creative and that’s where I saw my life go. I was already thinking about cashmere, but I think so. [pregnancy] It just made me think about how much stability I would feel when I got a job in an office space. I can take my daughter with me there.”
This isn’t the first time the new mom has expressed her desire to settle down. In a 2021 interview with Vogue magazineHadid, who shares her 2-year-old daughter with former One Direction star Zayn Malik, explained that after giving birth she was “skewed towards things that feel more stable than being in a different country every week,” and that she wanted to raise Khai on the farm that she She owns it in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, rather than Los Angeles or New York.
“The greenery and the farm lifestyle are like what made me feel really centered as a kid, and I think that’s really important to me and Zayn,” she told the outlet. “I think just giving your child the opportunity to explore different interests is a beautiful thing.”
In May 2021 on Instagram, she shared a rare series of photos of her baby in honor of Mother’s Day.
“The rumors are true: my best friend, goal, inspiration, greatest pride and happiness! I feel so fortunate and inspired to be your mother, my fiance,” she wrote at the time. “An ancient soul full of sunshine, illuminating everyone’s days!”
Hadid recently gushed about her 2-year-old daughter during the September episode of Sunday today With Willie Geist. Hadid said, “I think she’s a genius. That’s what everyone says about their child. It’s so much fun. The more I talk and understand and remember it, the more and more fun it becomes and it’s a blessing.”
She said Khai is very “moving” at the moment, which adds the extra complexity of raising the young child.
She explained, “Jumping off things. Very brave, and that’s cool, but you know. We’re training to do dangerous things carefully. That’s what I’m going to do.”
