Jason David Frank, original 'Power Rangers' star, dead at 49: 'A Wonderful Human Being'

Jason David Frank, the actor who starred as the green/white Power Ranger in the hit TV series of the ’90s, has died. He was 49 years old.


“Unfortunately, that’s true,” a rep for Frank told PEOPLE. “Please respect the privacy of his family and friends during this terrible time as we deal with the loss of such a wonderful human being.”


“He loved his family, friends, and fans so much,” the actor added. “We will really miss him.”


It was not immediately clear what caused the death. Frank is survived by his four children – sons Hunter and Jacob, as well as daughters Skye and Jenna.


His death comes 21 years after the death of costar Thuy Trang, who died in 2001 from injuries sustained in a car accident. She was 27 years old.

Frank is known as Tommy Oliver from the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Franchised franchise from 1993 to 1996.


The actor — who was also a mixed martial artist — has also starred in other films power Rangers projects, incl Power Rangers Zeo, Turbo And the Dino Thunder.

The late star’s other acting credits include the ’90s series Sweet Valley High, episode of family affairs and loop of We are bare bears.


On his IMDB page, Frank is in the midst of filming Legend of the White Dragon As Eric Reed / The White Dragon before his death.

Frank power Rangers His costar, Walter E. Jones, remembered his friend in a social media post Sunday, writing, “I can’t believe it… RIP Jason David Frank. My heart is saddened by the loss of yet another member of our special family.”


In a statement to PEOPLE, Jones, 51, said, “He was an inspiration to so many people. His presence will be sorely missed. It is so sad to lose another member of the Ranger family.”


He added, “Jason was one of the biggest pranksters on the show. He had a great sense of humor. We’ve had our share of ups and downs, but I’ve remained consistent about being an ear if he needs one. His family and everyone who will miss him. May he rest in power.”
