Text description provided by architects. The Central Valley of Chile is geographically bounded from north to south by the Angostura de Paine River and the Bío Bío River, and from east to west by the Andes Mountains and the Coastal Range. In the city of Talca, this stunning landscape can be seen from Cerro la Virgen, offering a view of the valley, the city and the majestic Andes with the Descapizado Grande Volcano. This image left a lasting impression on the city’s residents and visitors, and it is precisely this postcard-like scene that inspired the choice of the project’s location, on top of a hill overlooking the Claro River.
Measuring approximately seven meters high, Las Percas Events Center is a dedicated event space, accommodating a wide range of private events, from private parties to corporate meetings.
The structure rises from a supporting steel frame made up of cylindrical columns arranged every seven metres. At a height of three metres, a diagonal grid begins supporting the roof. The perimeter fence is a large curtain wall, which, combined with breaking the volume by 135 degrees, allows expansive views of the Talca Valley and the Andes inland. These design elements allow for a visual experience that extends beyond the scale of the building and the surrounding terrain, seamlessly integrating the splendor of the landscape into the project.
The main entrance to the event center is marked on its facade, which has received a special treatment to stimulate oxidation in the material, creating a contrast with the overall volume. The structure consists of one level divided into five zones. The event center kitchen is strategically located in the western corner to ensure that the flow of people within the venue is not obstructed. Next is the central space for celebrations, a spacious area where the structure and the external view become essential elements. Then, there is an independent volume that houses the service area with the bathrooms, dividing the central space at the same time to make room for the barbecue area and fire pit. Finally, in the northern sector, there is an outdoor courtyard that, although protected from the strong local winds, still offers a stunning view thanks to the extended glass walls.
In this way, the form and main features of the Las Picas Event Center aim to establish connections not only with its immediate surroundings but also with a much broader regional context.
