Put the 28-day Wall Pilates challenge to the test

It’s everywhere on social media: lose weight, lose belly fat, and reduce stress in just 28 days. But does Wall Pilates offer a challenge? We team up with two women determined to find the answer. “I’ve seen the ads for it. So, that’s something I wanted to see,” Torrance Brown said. She is no stranger to fitness. Brown helps others as a coach at the Parkway Community YMCA in West Roxbury. Now she hopes to work on herself. “Well, you know, we always want to get rid of this,” she said, pointing to her stomach. “But mostly, I want to get consistency into doing Pilates on a regular basis.” She’ll get some help with her mission from Pilates and YMCA Healthy Living Director Regina Hayes. Hayes also wants to see if this challenge can be achieved. “I’m curious to see what kind of education they’re going to provide, because there’s a lot of subtleties involved in Pilates movements. That’s why I’m here, to be able to coach our students through some of the exercises,” Hayes said. “We chose the Better Me Wall Pilates Challenge, which is with a custom plan for about $15. Brown just has to fill out a quick questionnaire with Hayes standing by, and then she’s handed her 28-day Pilates roadmap. She downloads the app, and off we go! “I think at first it’s going to be a struggle,” Brown said. “Because, like anything you add to a daily habit, it’s going to be hard.” “But my goal is that by day 14, I won’t have to think about it so much, and by day 21, it will just become second nature. And I hope it sticks in my mind by 28.” It fits in with the mission at the YMCA. They’re in the middle of the Together We Move initiative, trying to get everyone moving more in our area. We’ll catch up with Brown and Hayes every Thursday on NewsCenter 5 at 4 p.m. throughout The next four weeks to see how the challenge goes.

“But mostly, I want to get consistency in doing Pilates on a regular basis.”

She’ll get some help in her mission from Regina Hayes, director of healthy living at the YMCA and YMCA.

Hayes also wants to see if this challenge can be achieved.

“I’m curious to see what kind of instruction they’re going to provide, because there’s a lot of subtleties involved in the Pilates movements. That’s why I’m here, to be able to coach our students through some of the exercises,” Hayes said.

We chose the Better Me Wall Pilates Challenge which promises a custom plan for about $15. Brown just has to fill out a quick questionnaire with Hayes standing by, and then she’s handed her 28-day Pilates roadmap. She downloaded the app, and off we went!

“I think at first it’s going to be a struggle because, like anything you add to a daily habit, it’s going to be difficult,” Brown said. “But my goal is that by day 14, I won’t have to think about it as much, and by day 21, it’ll just become second nature. And hopefully, by day 28, it’ll stick with me.”

This experience fits with the YMCA’s mission. They are in the middle of the “Move Together” initiative, trying to get everyone moving more in our area.

We’ll catch up with Brown and Hayes every Thursday on NewsCenter 5 at 4pm for the next four weeks to see how the challenge is going.
