Industry insider Joanna Robinson has joined The Ringer’s the hour A podcast to discuss Robert Downey Jr.’s time in Avengers: Endgame hiring.

This adds to her work on the recently released behind-the-scenes book detailing the history and future of the MCU titled MCU: Marvel Studios Era.

Robinson visited game over He was hired while working at Vanity Fair in 2017, and revealed that he was “Ice cold in the studio” Due to Downey Jr.’s request that the set be set to that temperature:

The Watch Podcast: “What’s the mood like? [on Marvel Studios sets]?”

Robinson: “The atmosphere is interesting… It’s – this isn’t in the book, so it’s exclusive to The Watch – it’s very cold in the studio because that’s what Robert Downey Jr. likes to do. So everyone had to layer up.” Because Robert Downey Jr. likes things to a certain degree…

It also confirmed that Downey Jr. “He has his own trailer inside the studio.” Outside of the trailers for the rest of the issue, looking back at how the OG Avengers cast treated each other between takes:

“There’s a little ocean of trailers outside the studio, but then Downey has his own trailer inside the studio. And so, between takes, everyone’s hanging out in one place. So you can just see Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth and Reiner all sitting around and playing games.” And they talk to each other. And then Sean Gunn and Karen Gillan were a little bit apart because they weren’t from the OG Avengers…they were in their little duo, but they’re “in this movie.”

As for Downey, Robinson mentioned him “In his own world.” With stars like Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth bonding together for their final experience together in the MCU:

“And then Downey is in his own world. And that’s kind of the vibe between takes. But it seemed to me very much like these are the older alumni, like ScarJo and Chris Evans and Hemsworth, they’ve just been through it. They’ve been going through it for a while. They’ve known each other.” forever…”

Will Robert Downey Jr. return to the MCU?

At this point, it’s anyone’s guess whether Robert Downey Jr. has officially seen Tony Stark’s role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe come to an end.

For Phase 4 specifically, producer Stephen Broussard indicated that his return was not the same “On the table” As the first group of Multiverse Saga projects that focused heavily on new characters.

However, MCU co-star Mark Ruffalo recently kept the door open for a potential return of the franchise’s first leading man, saying “anything could happen” At a Comic-Con event in early 2023.

Suspiciously, Downey avoided the subject of a return entirely when asked about the potential Iron Man 4 While promoting his new work, he did not mention the film at all when asked directly about the chances of it happening.

And while the MCU star is certainly well-trained in the art of hiding what (if anything) he knows, many are already looking to the future to see where the OG Avenger could return to action if Marvel wants more from its hero.

All of Robert Downey Jr.’s MCU appearances are available to stream on Disney+. MCU: Marvel Studios Era Available now on Amazon.
