Hanoi Vietnam–(working wire) –Dr. Hasis DEC, former CEO of Mercedes-Benz Information and Development, Mr. Frank Steinert, NXP Semiconductor, and other automotive technology professionals from FPT Software, Kinh Nguyen and Dzung Dinh discussed the future of hybrid and electric vehicle technologies. Global experts believe that future cars will not only be electric and self-driving, but also interact with each other to avoid accidents and congestion. The transition to electric vehicles (EVs) entails an increased demand for software engineers.

Global electric vehicle sales in the past 10 years have grown 100 times, from 55.4 thousand (2011) to 6.8 million (2021), according to the International Energy Agency report. The introduction of Tesla’s Model 3 in July 2017 contributed greatly to this trend.

Meanwhile, global regulations on reducing carbon emissions have accelerated the shift from internal combustion engines (ICE) to electric vehicles. Last year, the European Union proposed an effective ban on ICE from 2035, accelerating the shift to electric vehicles.

It is likely that the end of ICE will happen soon. UBS, a global financial services advisor, projects that 20% of all new cars sold globally will be electric by 2025 and will rise to nearly 50% by 2030. Some experts predict that 100% of all new cars will be electric by 2040.

all over the world , The transition is already happening. Mr. Dzong Dinh said. “At present, we see a lot of electric cars on the road, Tesla, Ford in the US. GM, Audi and Mercedes in the EU. In Vietnam, we already have the VF e34 on the road, and more production lines will be introduced soon.”

Along with the expected dominance of electric vehicles, the growing importance of software in the automotive industry stands out. That’s because the industry requires a wide range of exclusive software especially for electric vehicle manufacturers, such as monitoring, navigation and maintenance software. As the electric vehicle market continues to grow, software needs are also likely to evolve.

Commenting on this, Dr. Siegmar Haasis, Founder and CEO of Haasis Digital Engineering Consulting and former Head of Information and Development at Mercedes-Benz, stated, “In the past 20 or 30 years, hardware has dominated the industry and software has only been the result. It has now changed from a 90-10 ratio to something called 50-50. Everyone wants to become a software-knowledgeable, software-related company.”

In addition, software is changing how cars are built, Digital Twins technology being a case in point. The digital twins are a digital representation of the vehicle from different angles, including all of its capabilities. Many automakers are implementing Digital Twins to replace the traditional method of validating monitoring physical assets. with digital verification [using Digital Twins], The product creation process can be shortened from 3-5 years to approximately 12 months. And it can save up to 30% of the device prototype cost” – Dr. confirmed. Sigmar sensed. However, as Frank added, “There will be a lot of digital twins of each model throughout its lifetime.”

As a result, there is an increasing demand for Software Engineers across the various divisions in Automotive. From the perspective of employers, Mr. Ken Nguyen, Senior Vice President and Director of Global Manufacturing and Automotive at FPT Software commented that until then, employers are likely to “You won’t find them in the United States, or in the European Union, or in Asia.” He proves this by featuring several articles inviting 5,000 to 10,000 new software engineers.

To bridge the critical situation, last July, FPT Software organized the Automotive Technology Show 2022, which connected more than 1,000 engineers and technology students passionate about vehicles with prominent employers. The company promises to promote the development of high-quality human resources for the automotive technology industry.

FPT Software is the first Vietnamese enterprise and is one of the 21 development partners of AUTOSAR, the modular architecture created by leading automotive and corporate service providers.
