In 2020, Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry ditched their roles as working members of the royal family when they moved their family to Canada, and then months later, to California in the US. But since then, comments the couple made toward the monarchy have come under scrutiny — notably during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021.

The Duchess of Sussex has claimed there were “concerns and conversations” within the royal family about son Archie Harrison’s skin color before his birth in 2019.

Meghan also said that since joining the royal family, she has had mental health issues, including suicidal thoughts.

A week after the surprise interview, a YouGov economic poll of 1,500 US adults found Meghan Markle to have a net fame of just +15 — down from +28 the year before, while her negative ratings rose ten points to 33 percent.

Less than half (48 percent) had a “favorable or somewhat favorable” view of Meghan, while a third (33 percent) had a “very unfavorable or somewhat unfavorable” view of her.

But a YouGov survey of 1,000 adults in the US from May 18-21, 2022 found this has fallen further, with only 45 percent now having a “favorable or somewhat favorable” view of the Duchess of Sussex.

Less than half (46 percent) have a “very unfavorable or somewhat unfavorable” view of it.

Neil Gardiner, a Washington foreign policy expert and enthusiast of the royal family, told Express.co.uk: “Meghan and Harry’s popularity in the US has fallen dramatically over the course of the year, and it will continue to decline.

“Meghan’s image is as deteriorating in the US as it is in the UK.

Meghan and Harry returned to the UK earlier this month for the Queen’s platinum jubilee celebrations, where they sat away from members of the royal family working on Buckingham Palace’s balcony for Trooping the Colour.

But before that, a large poll showed that Megan’s popularity was very low among the British.

YouGov interviewed 1,692 adults in the UK from 18-19 May and asked if they had a positive or negative opinion of each of the key royals analyzed.

Among Britons interviewed by YouGov in its latest poll, less than a quarter (25 per cent) said they had a positive opinion of it, compared to 63 per cent who said it had a negative opinion.
