Tom Cruise “breaks up with girlfriend Hayley Atwell” after she supported him at the ‘Top Gun’ premiere

Tom Cruise is said to have broken up with girlfriend Hayley Atwell for the second time.

The Top Gun: Maverick star, 59, and Mission: Impossible 7 co-star, 40, recently parted ways after their first split in September of 2021, according to The Sun.

A source told the publication, ‘Unfortunately it didn’t work out for them. They have now decided that they are better as friends.

The insider also revealed that the hype around the couple after appearing to the public was too much.

They get on really well, and they have great chemistry, which is why they decided to quietly bring the relationship back for another try earlier this year.

“What was working behind closed doors didn’t work out so well when it was announced, and the uproar erupted around them when the couple blew up again,” the source said.

The source also insisted that the marital romance was “original,” saying “despite some rumors to the contrary, it wasn’t just for the cameras.”

Atwell recently backed Cruise at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere in London, on May 19, where she stunned in a black crop top and velvet skirt with a high slit.

A source told The Sun at the time: “She is only there to support him. It’s a big step for them.

The couple began dating in 2020 after meeting on the set of Mission Impossible 7, and they first reported on in December.

Tom, who plays Ethan Hunt on the popular series, and Hayley, who portrays a character known as Grace, have spent most of the past year shooting the film across the UK, as well as in Rome, Venice and Norway.

Although the two have never openly confirmed their romance, they are said to have become “a little bit inseparable” after they “beat it up from day one” in the movie.

However, by September, the relationship was said to have “run its course” for the pair.

An insider told The Sun about the breakup: “It was a very intense period of filming together. They did really well – but as the last movie ended they decided to get back into being friends.

Their filming schedules are pretty full, Tom has a number of other commitments coming up and he’s always shooting around with a helicopter and private jet, so he just ran out of course.

But they are still happy to work together. It’s a shame, but it’s just one of those things. They are still fine.

Tom has not had a high-profile romance since his divorce from ex-wife Katie Holmes, 43, in 2012, while Hailey is said to have split from her former English doctor sometime in 2020.

The Hollywood icon shares her daughter Suri, 16, with Katie.
