The ceremony to commemorate National Migration Day, commemorating the 61st anniversary of the massacres of October 17, 1961, was marked by a minute of silence to pay respect to the souls of those who fell in the field of honor for the sake of Algerian independence.
These stops come in implementation of the decision of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in the year 2021, who decided to establish a minute of silence across the entire country to commemorate this occasion that coincides with National Immigration Day.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a vigil was organized today, Tuesday, at 11 am, at the Ministry’s headquarters, for the souls of the martyrs of the October 17 massacres.
This morning, after the Minister of Religious Affairs, Youssef Belmehdi, received the Dean of the Grand Mosque of Paris, Shams Al-Din Mohamed Hafeez, and Mohamed Al-Wanougi, the General Director of the Mosque. Everyone stood for a minute of silence to pay respect to the souls of the martyrs.
At the Ministry of Communication, a minute of silence was held at the Ministry’s headquarters in the presence of the Minister of the Sector, Dr. Muhammad Laqab, as well as the Ministry’s executives and employees.
By the way, a minute of silence was observed across various states and institutions to pay tribute to those who fell on the field of honor.
It is noteworthy that the demonstrations of October 17, 1961, which became the date of National Immigration Day, and which claimed the lives of hundreds of Algerians who had no fault other than that they went out peacefully and demanded the right of the Algerian people to independence and to live in freedom and dignity. Their fate was repression by the French police, which threw dozens of them into… Seine River in Paris, France.
