Today, January 22, 2024, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Kamal Badari, held a press conference at El Mujahid’s headquarters, where he presented the outcome of his sector’s achievements, as it is the locomotive of science and innovation to build a new Algeria.
During his guest appearance at the Mujahid Forum, the Minister of Higher Education confirmed that the reference for his sector is the same as the commitments of the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to which he allocated 9 items related to the higher education and scientific research sector.
He added that the Algerian university has developed significantly since independence, and has kept pace with and introduced into the labor market millions of graduates. He also praised the efforts made by the state in the higher education and scientific research sector, saying: “We record, from 2019 to the present day, that the budget allocated to the sector has doubled by 80%.” That is, it rose to 618.17 billion dinars, and in 2024 it increased by 18 percent.”
Speaking about the ranking of Algerian universities, the minister pointed out that the ranking of the Algerian university internationally is constantly improving, and Algeria has been ranked for the first time in the overall ranking among the top 500 universities in the world. He added: “We seek to make this ministry a creator of wealth.”
In his response to a question about the specialization of mechanics in Algerian universities, and the idea of creating a university institute for the automobile industry, the Minister affirmed that the idea of establishing and developing a training course in this field is welcome, and we asked professors to submit offers for training in this field to create frameworks capable of running it.”
The Minister also confirmed that during the year 2023, 947 university professors of various categories were employed, and 2,000 assistant professors (Section B) will be employed in higher education institutions in various specializations during the year 2024. These numbers are the largest since independence. He added, “The Algerian University has kept pace and faced challenges and responded to society’s requirements and is now leading the locomotive of science and innovation to build a new Algeria.”
